Munday Muxtape review for July 21, 2008

LISTEN TO MUNDAY MUXTAPE HERE

This week I’m featuring songs that can instantly improve my mood. These songs do this mostly by making me dance around and sing along.

DJ Sunderland - Supermassive Mandy

Thanks to nyquil.org for this song. It’s a mashup of a song by Muse and some other band. I know, I’m so much help. And no, I don’t know where the mp3 came from and can’t link it on Amazon, shucks!

Gorillaz - 19-2000 [Soulchild remix] Click title to buy

I first heard this song in a gum commercial I think, the setting was a party and the song fit pretty well. It’s just so happy sounding!

Javelin - Oh Centra Click title to buy

I heard this on Myspace and fell in love with its bleeps and bloops. And how adorable, it’s about a cat! Dancy, video-gamey music about a cat, now what isn’t fun about that?

Jellyfish - All Is Forgiven Click title to buy

Jellyfish are credited with some influence of the band Self, and I can understand that. However, the styles are significantly different enough that I enjoy it on a different level. Mostly because of the overdramatics and very Queen-esque feeling I get from listening to it, I like singing along loudly [in the privacy of my own car or room when no one else is home].

New Radicals - Mother We Just Can’t Get Enough Click title to buy

Remember these guys? Well you do now. There’s something very endearing about a good spilling-your-guts to someone love song, especially when it’s energetic and not terribly sappy. I like it.

Hot Rod Circuit - At Nature’s Mercy Click title to buy

See above, my comments about endearing songs echo here. I find I include this song a lot because it reminds me of being a teenager and all the shenanigans we’d find ourselves in, and it was all just fun.

John Taylor - Anon [One Day at a Time]

OK, this song isn’t dancy, but it certainly makes me happier. I’m a huge fan of John Taylor, and this song is kind of a warm, fuzzy blanket, letting me know everything’s gonna be alright. And he throws in a good bit of humor to lighten the mood, as well. And to anyone who likes the song, well, sorry, I can’t find anywhere convenient to link to it. You can try finding used copies of the album Autodidact if you are determined.
